Chukwu Hails Prof Kalu’s Legacy As Abia Honours Outgoing SSG

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia state on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, has commended the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kenneth Kalu, for strengthening institutional coordination, transparency and procedural discipline during his tenure.

Dr. Chukwu spoke recently at a send-off dinner organised by the Abia State Government in honour of Prof. Kalu at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia on Friday, 20th February, 2026.

According to him, the former SSG played a pivotal role in reinforcing accountability frameworks within the administration, ensuring that governance processes were structured and aligned with due process principles.

“Prof. Kalu’s tenure reflected a strong commitment to structure, process and accountability. His leadership helped consolidate reforms aimed at building a responsive and efficient public service,” Dr. Chukwu said.

He described the event as not merely a farewell but a recognition of impactful service, expressing confidence that the administration would continue to build on the institutional foundations laid during Prof. Kalu’s time in office.

Prof. Kalu, who had earlier proceeded on leave of absence before resigning his appointment to reunite with his family overseas, was celebrated at the colourful ceremony attended by top government officials and dignitaries from across the state.

Governor Alex Chioma Otti, in his tribute, emphasised that governance must remain people-centred.

“The paraphernalia of office is less important than the office itself. That could be what is important to you. But what is important to me is restoring the dignity of our people. Governance, as far as we are concerned, is not about us; it is about you — about our people,” the governor stated.

The newly appointed SSG, Emmanuel Meribeole, described Prof. Kalu as a dedicated public servant who served with passion and integrity, noting that his leadership style would remain a reference point in the state’s administrative structure.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Uche Emeh Uche, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Acho Obioma, said the state would greatly miss Prof. Kalu’s experience, intellectual depth and dedication to duty.
